Points / Grades – HW #1, 2, 3, and 4 + Exams I and II

(You may use this information to assess where you stand in relation to the rest of the students in your class)

The medians for the first four HWs are:

HW#1 – 87

HW#2 – 73.5

HW#3 – 77.5

HW#4 – 91.5

Exam I          High score: 92          Low score: 40          Median: 74

Distribution (total = 15 students):

90s – 2

80s – 2

70s – 6

60s – 0

50s – 1

40s – 4

Commentary: The exam was too long and the problem on Convolution / Invertibility was a “killer”.  When I calculate Final Grades, the Exam I scores will be adjusted to a median of 80 – which means all scores on Exam I will have 6 points added.  Letter grades are not assigned to exams, but if I did, raw scores in the 90s would be an A and raw scores in the 40s would be an F. The distribution after adjusting the median to 80 is:

Exam I + 6 points (median adjusted to 80)

Distribution:

90s – 3

80s – 5

70s – 2

60s – 1

50s – 2

40s – 2

Exam II          High score: 96          Low score 46                 Median 88

Distribution (total = 14 students):

90s – 6

80s – 3

70s – 3

60s – 1

50s – 0

40s – 1

Commentary: The scores were stunningly high.  If letter grades were assigned (and they are not), scores in the 90s would be an A and the score in the 40s would be an F. The median will not be adjusted.
