When used in electronic devices, they are sometimes referred to as "spintronics". This represents one of the first, substantial, commercial applications of "nanotechnology". The two main commercializations so far are for harddisk magnetic read-write heads, and for magnetically activated switches. The charge shuttle is a dynamic example of image charge induction and dipole force attraction between two charged conductors. Another "everyday" example of image charge induction and dipole force attraction is the parlor trick of rubbing a balloon on your hair and getting it to stick to a wall.
